I made Italiano Nocturne on a rainy evening during my honeymoon in Italy. The sensible choice would have been to tuck the camera away and get out of the weather, but the wet stone was turning every lamp, storefront, and passing car into a second city made of reflections. I set the camera and let the shutter remain open long enough for Florence to draw through the frame. People became soft figures at the edges while green and amber lights stretched down the street like brushstrokes.

What stays with me is not a single frozen instant, but the feeling of walking through Florence that night: rain in the air, centuries-old buildings holding still, and modern life flowing between them. The exposure gathered all of it into one image. That is what began to define Lightstreaks for me: using time itself as part of the photograph, so a place can be remembered not only as it looked, but as it felt to move through it.
